Development of an Annotated Outline of a Climate Adaptation Strategy of the Drina River Basin

The overall aim of the SEE Nexus Project is to introduce the Nexus approach in South-East Europe and catalyse action for its adoption and implementation. With activities focusing on the transboundary basins of the Drin and Drina rivers, and in Albania, the Project facilitated Nexus Dialogue Processes involving a broad range of stakeholders, and the development of technical Nexus Assessments exploring cross-sectoral interlinkages, while enabling conditions for financing actions to address issues of priority.

In this context, one of the deliverables was the draft outline of a Climate Adaptation Strategy for the Drina River basin. Climate change poses significant and complex challenges for transboundary water basins worldwide. As climate change will increase over the coming decades, transboundary cooperation on adaptation and resilience strategies is essential to advance sustainable development and ensure social and political stability for basin countries and their people. Based on a literature review and basin-wide stakeholder consultations FT drafted the first outline.
