The consortium aimed to foster the European Commission’s Mayors Adapt initiative and to strengthen the direct link between the European Commission and local authorities in taking coherent, integrated actions on adaptation. This is done by expanding the network of participating cities, active involvement of signatories, awareness-raising and showcasing good practice, providing support through a HelpDesk, organising events and workshops, facilitating knowledge transfer and cooperating with other initiatives and urban areas networks as well as monitoring the progress and strategic planning of the development of the initiative.
It was a follow-up contract to the project that created and established the initiative. Similarly to the initial project, Fresh Thoughts continued to provide technical expertise on adaptation in urban areas also in this follow-up. The main tasks included the maintenance and updating of the Urban Adaptation Support Tool, managing the knowledge base database in close cooperation with European Environmental Agency, providing technical assistance to the HelpDesk as well as training signatories on access and use of urban adaptation knowledge via workshops. An additional contribution of Fresh Thoughts was monitoring and providing information on adaptation funding opportunities for the signatories.
