The general objective of this service request under a general Framework Contract was to assess the way in which Directive 2000/60/EC1 (the Water Framework Directive or WFD) and its daughter Directives are implemented by the Member States, based on the assessment of the second River Basin Management Plans (submitted end 2015 covering the six year period 2016-2021). The Commission will use the technical assessments as background information in its function to ensure, in accordance with Article 258 of the TFEU, that the Directives are correctly applied in the Member States.
