Fresh Thoughts supported the World Bank in producing a training kit on Flood Risk Management in the European Union based on the EU Floods Directive.
The training kit:
- provides insight into the history and content of the EU Floods Directive;
- explains the important cornerstones of the EU Floods Directive such as the objectives and basic principles and their legal implications for the EU Member States, including important actors;
- presents the 3 main implementation stages of the EU Floods Directive: (1) the Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment, (2) the development of Flood Hazard Maps and Flood Risk Maps and (3) the derivation of the Floor Risk Management Plans and the 6-year cyclical approach; and
- provides insight into the experiences made with its implementation in the EU Member States, including current challenges and lessons learnt.
