Climate Adaptation Strategy for Luxembourg

Climate Change is one of the big challenges of the 21st century. Apart from mitigation, adaptation to the consequences of climate change is indispensable. In this context, the Government of Luxembourg, decided to elaborate a climate adaptation strategy based on two existing documents. The strategy comprises the following parts:

  • A summary of climate change impacts on the region;
  • a vulnerability assessment for relevant sectors;
  • the evaluation of existing measures and
  • the design of new measures.

FT covered the following tasks:

  • A detailed description of climate change impacts on the bio-, hydro-, pedo- and reliefs phere.
  • A summary of experienced and expected climatic changes regarding temperature, precipitation and extreme events.
  • A vulnerability assessment for biodiversity & ecosystems, construction & housing, energy, forestry, health, infrastructure, agriculture, spatial planning, catastrophe management, tourism, urban environments, water management and economy.
  • Based on the above-mentioned existing information measures were evaluated and described and if necessary new measures were proposed.
