Supporting the World Bank by producing a training kit on Flood Risk Management in the European Union

Fresh Thoughts was supporting the World Bank in producing a training kit on Flood Risk Management in the European Union based on the EU Floods Directive.

The training kit:

  • gives insights into the history and content of the EU Flood Directive,
  • explains the important corner stones of the EU Flood Directive such as the objectives and basic principles and their legal implications for the EU Member States including important actors,
  • Presents the 3 main stages of implementation of the EU Flood Directive: (1) the Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment, (2) the development of Flood Hazard Maps and Flood Risk Maps and (3) the derivation of the Floor Risk Management Plans and the 6-years cyclic approach and

gives insights into the experiences made with its implementation in the EU Member States including current challenges and lessons learnt.
