Adaptation and mitigation in the Stanzertal region

Climate change is a particular challenge for regions that are heavily dependent on tourism and therefore on natural resources. As the impacts of climate change vary depending on the local context, municipalities play a key role in mitigating risks and exploiting opportunities that come along with these changes. At the same time, sustainability has become increasingly important in touristic decision-making. As a result, measures to effectively implement climate change adaptation and mitigation are needed. Sustainability is a key concept to connect these two approaches and to exploit possible synergies.

Fresh Thoughts together with alpS supported the St. Anton Tourism Association in the process of increasing sustainability and resilience. This four-step approach included establishing a scientific base, informing stakeholders, gathering basic information on mitigation and adaptation, including the potential for future action, and developing measures in a participatory process.
