Water, land, food, energy, and climate are interconnected, comprising a coherent system (the ‘Nexus’), dominated by complexity and feedback. Putting pressure on one part of the Nexus can put pressure on the other parts. Managing the Nexus is crucial to securing the efficient use of our scarce resources. By addressing the five nexus themes, the Horizon 2020 project SIM4NEXUS aimed to predict the overall societal impact of resource use and relevant policies on sectors such as agriculture, water, biodiversity and ecosystem services through a model-based analysis. The methodologies and tools for integrating the Nexus components were applied to address real-world challenges in 12 selected case studies at regional, national, European and global scales. SIM4NEXUS brought together a multidisciplinary team of 25 partners from 15 countries.
Fresh Thoughts led the Work Package 7, which focused on dissemination and communication activities, both within the consortium and to a wide range of stakeholders and interested parties. Communication activities included promoting the project within various Nexus-relevant networks, giving presentations at regional, national and international workshops and conferences as well as the publication of scientific articles.
