Tourism Monitoring In Antarctica

Tourism Monitoring In Antarctica

Development of a concept for the investigation of the effects of tourism on the protected resources in Antarctica.

This study aims to present the current state of scientific knowledge on the impacts of tourism activities, including the logistics used, on the relevant protected goods of the Antarctic environment. On this basis, a comprehensive monitoring concept is being developed that can monitor tourist sites and other reference areas (in Antarctica, specifically in the area south of 60 ° degrees south latitude) in the long term in order to detect possible changes in the Antarctic environment in good time.

The overall objective of this research project is to contribute to the further development of international environmental protection in Antarctica.

FT is also organising two international workshops to connect relevant stakeholders.
